Take Out The City’s Trash Tonight At 6:00
Come to the MaRs Centre on College Street tonight at 6:00 and talk trash with Toronto's mayoralty candidates Stephen Pitfield, Rod Muir, and Jane Pitfield. Alphabet City is hosting a panel about trash - what we are doing with it now and what to do with it in the future. Join yours truly as moderator as we ask the politicians who want to lead the city their views on Toronto's growing garbage crisis.
Join us for what should be a fast-paced hour of questions and answers.
Do you have questions for the candidates? Let us know what they are and we will try to ask them. Just add them as a comment below.

I want to know what the candidates think about incineration. It works in Europe why not here?

Raphael, an incinerator in the city would be a disaster – almost as bad as a power plant on the waterfront!
My question is, why don’t we make companies recycle the packaging on consumer products? This is done in Germany and it works.

We have been relatively successful with the three Rs of waste management, but what about the fourth R, “Re-think?”
Do we need to produce as much waster in the first place? Does it have to be as toxic? What role do cities play in establishing waste guidelines – very little, but cities have to deal with the problems resulting from poor regulatory decisions.
