Southern Exposure is a collection of short fiction set in the tropical climates of Brazil, Cuba and Costa Rica.  The Brazilian stories depict Canadian professionals adjusting to the advantages and challenges of work on foreign aid projects. The Cuban stories focus on an aspiring journalist who travels to Cuba before the missile crisis, and returns 40 years later, while the Costa Rican novella reveals the lives of four artists at an art colony.

Helen Pereira was recently honoured by the Mississauga Arts Council as a Literary Arts Award Finalist. Her award-winning work has appeared in literary magazines throughout North and South America and has been listed in Best American Short Stories.
