Not your average building…

As a one who is not a fan of the current trend of "Blockbuster" public buildings where designs are chosen on the basis of the ability of the design to solicit funding from the private sector, I present these photos from a recent tour of the ROM "Crystal". The tour was generously provided by Stephan and Patrick of Studio Daniel Libeskind.

There is a time in the life of every building where the transitory, imperfect and happenstance conditions of the construction site lend themselves to the most provocative and engaging moments in that life. I believe that these photos capture a few of those moments.

Although still not a fan of blockbuster buildings, I recognize that the ROM Crystal, in its current state, provides a few glimpses of the heroic complexity which the designers must have intended.
