Fragment 1
The corner of Spadina and Queen lies at the heart of Toronto, for me. I know it intimately. It is a true intersection, a keystone in my mental map of the city. In the winter I eject myself from the mass swaying within the 501 Queen car and walk south on Spadina toward the office, passing four coffee shops within the space of thirty seconds, each foggy-windowed and lined with woolen commuters. Sometimes when the sky is full of snow all one can hear is the clack of rails, and the troughs carved by tires fall still, newly pure, white.
