Expo 2015
imageimageThe last time a Toronto architect had a free hand to design a section of the city's waterfront was almost two generations ago when Eb Zeidler designed Ontario Place. While much of what made his scheme internationally significant was thoughtlessly obliterated, it is clear that the work has aged well and can compete with anything built in that era. The city's plan to compete for Expo 2015 may provide another Toronto architect an opportunity for greatness.

Many of us remember the excitement Expo 67 generated among most Canadians. Design, an international perspective, and the curiosity of a world population that was just beginning to realize they lived on "spaceship earth" came together to create a truly significant cultural event. Can Toronto eclipse Montreal's achievement? Or should we even try?
