Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal was founded in 1981 by top graduates from conservatories and faculties of music in Quebec. The Orchestre Métropolitain quickly became a part of Montréal’s cultural life, especially with the arrival of Director, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, in March 2000. The CBC One French Radio show “C’est bien meilleur le matin” hosted by René Homier-Roy has named Orchestre Métropolitain conductor Yannick Nézet-Séquin “Personality of the Year,” emphasizing his outstanding contribution to culture.

The Orchestre's upcoming concerts are "The Brahms Love Affair" on February 27 + March 2 + March 6 + March 7, 2006. A program entitled "Baroque Fire" will preview on March 30 + March 31 + April 10 + April 12 + April 13, 2006. Verdi’s Aïda will be performed on May 20 + May 24 + May 27 + June 1 + June 3, 2006

In addition to their concert series, the Orchestre Métropolitain also stages Initiation to Music courses and offers youth concerts to schools and the greater public. These concerts are specially adapted to introduce school-aged children to classical music.
